For Schools

Who we are

The Active Way is a community-led project that aims to better connect the paths and streets of St Andrews. We want to help our community plan and create a travel network for all that makes travel easier, more efficient and better for health. To do this we need strong partnerships, community involvement and a shared vision, and schools can play a big part in all of that.

Safer, more pleasant routes will help increase cycling, walking and wheeling to and from schools, bringing a wide range of benefits to school communities including improved physical and mental wellbeing, better confidence and resilience, improved opportunities for safe outdoor socialising, decreased air and noise pollution and fewer stressful traffic situations. Children’s voices, as well as those of parents/guardians and staff in schools, will play a critical role in creating a plan that will deliver these benefits and more.

What we offer schools

Get access to an activity pack containing 5 Curriculum for Excellence friendly activities that encourage fun and informative outdoor learning about active travel. The activity pack contains information on a range of activities suitable for primary schools to deliver as part of the curriculum. Children will learn what active travel is, what the benefits are and what this means for them and their communities. These activities explore positive aspects of healthy living, decision making and how to express opinions on social, moral, ethical, economic and environmental issues. Schools are free to participate in as few or as many activities as they wish.
